Session duration and Remember Me
The Login Persistence card controls how long users stay logged in.
Check "Remember Me" by default: A checkbox. When enabled, the Remember Me box on the login form is checked by default. Users can still uncheck it if they want a shorter session.
Remember Me Duration: A dropdown: 1 Day, 1 Week, 2 Weeks (Default), 1 Month, 3 Months, 6 Months, or 1 Year. This applies only when Remember Me is checked on the login form. It defines how long the session cookie lasts.
Example: If you set 2 Weeks and leave Remember Me unchecked by default, users get a short session unless they check the box. If you check Remember Me by default and set 1 Month, most users stay logged in for a month.
You decide the balance between convenience (longer sessions) and security (shorter sessions).

In practice
Custom Login — control how long users stay logged in. On this page, Session duration and Remember Me is covered in detail: what it looks like in the admin, the exact controls it exposes, and how it behaves when you use it day to day. Because session duration and remember me is part of Custom Login — a branded wp-login experience: custom layouts, logo and colors, demo access, and persistence controls — the settings you touch here interact with the rest of the feature; when in doubt, open the feature overview and follow the docs in order.
