Roles and capabilities without code
The Role Management drawer is where you manage roles and capabilities (no code).
Click Roles in the Users page header, or open Role Management from the Menu Management drawer (user menu or sidebar). The drawer opens from the side.
You see a list of roles (native and custom). For each role you can:
View: See the role name and its capabilities.
Edit: Open an editor where you can rename the role (if allowed) and toggle capabilities with checkboxes. Capabilities have readable names so you don't need to memorize slugs. Save to apply.
Create: Name a new role and assign capabilities. It appears in the list and in the Users page role filter.
Delete: Delete a custom role (native roles are typically protected). Confirm before delete.
The editor shows WordPress capabilities (e.g. edit_posts, publish_posts) with clear labels. Check or uncheck to grant or revoke. Changes save to WordPress's role system, so plugins and core respect them.
Some capabilities may be marked as protected (e.g. for Administrator). The UI may restrict editing of certain roles or capabilities for safety.
