Menu Management drawer

Customize the sidebar menu

The Menu Management drawer is where you customize the sidebar menu: order and labels. It's the "menu builder" with live preview because the sidebar reflects your changes as you save or apply overrides.

Opening the drawer

  • From the user menu (bottom of sidebar) → Menu or Customize menu (wording may vary).

  • From Settings if a "Menu" or "Customize menu" link is provided.

What you can do

  • Reorder itemsDrag-and-drop (e.g. with dnd-kit). Move items up or down; the new order is stored as an override. The sidebar menu updates so the list order matches the drawer (live preview).

  • Rename items – Click an item to edit its label (e.g. change "Posts" to "Content"). The override stores the new name; the sidebar shows the new label immediately.

  • Reset to default – A Reset (or "Reset to default") action clears your overrides and restores the original WordPress menu order and names. The sidebar reloads with the default structure.

  • Role-based overrides (optional) – Depending on your version, you can simulate a role or manage per-role overrides (show/hide or rename items for a role). A Capability confirmation modal may appear when adding or removing a capability from a role. These overrides affect what the sidebar shows for that role.

Live preview

  • The sidebar is the preview: it uses the same menu data and overrides as the drawer. So when you reorder or rename in the drawer and overrides are saved (or applied in memory), the sidebar list and labels update. You don't need a separate "preview" window. The sidebar is it.

Closing

  • Use the drawer close button or click outside. Your overrides are already saved (or applied) so the sidebar keeps the new order and names.

Benefit: A simple menu builder: reorder and rename in one place, see the result in the sidebar right away.
