Edit posts and pages without leaving the list

Edit inline

You can change these in the grid by clicking the cell and choosing a new value. Changes are saved via the API and the row updates without a full page reload.

Status

  • Click the Status cell (e.g. "Draft" or "Pending"). A dropdown opens.

  • Choose Published, Draft, Pending, Scheduled, or Trash.

  • The post updates immediately; the grid and any dashboard stats stay in sync.

Use case: Approve pending posts, move a draft to Published, or send to Trash. All from the list.

Author

  • Click the Author cell (avatar and name). A dropdown or popover lists site authors.

  • Select another user. The post is reassigned and the cell shows the new author.

Use case: Reassign drafts to a different writer or correct attribution without opening the editor.

Date

  • Click the Date cell. A date picker opens.

  • Choose a new date (and time if supported). The post publish/created date updates.

Use case: Reschedule or backdate posts from the list.

Categories and labels

  • Categories: Click the Category (or primary taxonomy) cell. A multi-select opens. Add or remove categories; save; the row reflects the new selection.

  • Labels / tags: Click the Labels or Tags cell. Multi-select for that taxonomy opens. Change tags/labels and save. The cell updates.

Tip: If a cell does not open a control, that column may be read-only in your setup. Status, Author, and Date are usually editable.

In Step 4 we will use row actions (Edit, Duplicate, Delete) and optionally customize columns.
